 1. William Shakespeare

This legend personality needs no introduction, he’s regarded as the greatest writer in the English world. He was born on 26th April, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England and died on 23 April 1616. With the extreme flair and his terrific writing skills he was often called as the National Poet of England. Shakespeare was not just a famous writer but also a very good poet and actor. His plays and poems are very famous not only in England but worldwide.


2. Charles Dickens

Charles John Huffam Dickens is another very famous English writer. Dickens was born on 7th February 1812 in Landport, Hampshire, England and died on 9th June 1870. Dickens was an English writer and social critic who got fame after his astonishing work in The Pickwick Papers, Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Bleak House, Hard Times, Little Dorrit, A Tale of Two Cities, and Great Expectations. This British novelist is majorly known for her great work in the fantasy series of Harry Potter. The complete series of Harry Potter breaks several records and gained the worldwide attention with more than 400 million copies were sold. Her work is outstanding and because of the ability of her innovative ideas she has reached this height in her writing career.


5. Virginia Woolf

Her real name is Adeline Virginia Woolf and she was born on 25th January, 1882 in Kensington, Middlesex, England and died on 28th March 1941. Woolf was an English writer, and one of the leading modernists of the twentieth century. Her way of writing was extremely impressive and she has written many outstanding novels and books. Few of them are To the Lighthouse, Mrs Dalloway, Orlando: A Biography and A Room of One’s Own. Woolf suffered from mental illness and she committed suicide by drowning at the age of 59.

6. Ernest Hemingway

Ernest Hemingway is a very famous author and journalist. His complete name is Ernest Miller Hemingway and he was born on 21st July, 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois, United States and died at the age of 61 on 2nd July 1961. Ernest was famous for his fiction writing and had a very strong impact of his writing in the 20th century. The list of his publications includes seven novels, two non-fiction works and six short stories. Hemingway also won Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954, some of his famous novels are The Sun Also Rises, For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea.


7. William Faulkner

William Faulkner is an American writer, his complete name is William Cuthbert Faulkner. He was born on 25th September, 1897 New Albany, Mississippi, United States and died at the age of 64 on 6th July, 1962. Faulkner won Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949, his writing includes a variety of poetry, essays, novels, short stories and screenplays. His novels won several awards and ranking in 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century.


8. Fyodor Dostoevsky

Fyodor Dostoevsky was a very famous Russian novelist who was born on 11th November, 1821 in Moscow, Russian Empire and died on 9th February 1881. He was just not a novelist but also a very famous short story writer, essayist and philosopher. His novels helped him to reach a different level amongst the other authors, few of his astounding novels were Notes from Underground, The Idiot, The Gambler, Crime and Punishment, The House of the Dead and The Brothers Karamazov. His complete name is Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde and he was born on 16th October, 1854 in Dublin, Ireland and died on 20th November, 1900.
